14/03/2023 Credit Corporation offers Project Wok Pilot Graduates Paid Work Experience
Last year, Project Yumi Inc, an Australian and Papua New Guinea (PNG) registered not for profit, and Credit Corporation signed a Corporate Sponsorship Agreement for the delivery of the youth empowerment training program, Project Wok, to 480 Grade 12 students in 2023.
Prior to the commencement of the 2023 program, in October 2022 Project Yumi Inc ran a pilot of the Project Wok Program for student family members of Credit Corporation employees. The 29 participants of the pilot included current and past Grade 10, 11 and 12 students and a select number of Grade 12 students from Kopkop College and POM National School of Excellence.
Following the successful pilot program, Credit Corporation offered all 29 graduates the opportunity to participate in two weeks of paid structured work experience. The Project Wok Work Experience Program was tailored specifically for Credit Corporation and its business and included a mix of on-the-job training and experience, computer software training and a range of business compliance training. The graduates were hosted by various departments across Credit Corporation’s Corporate Office, PNG Sales and Service Division and their Property Division.
Credit Corporation Group CEO, Danny Robinson, said that he was thoroughly impressed by the enthusiasm, commitment and drive of the Project Wok graduates but was disheartened by the lack of opportunity for them to gain work experience. He went on to say that with assistance of Project Yumi Inc Credit Corporation were able to quickly implement a work experience program that provided a comprehensive learning opportunity for its participants.
Head of People & Culture, Loka Niumatairua, proudly explained that Credit Corporation staff fully embraced the Project Wok Work Experience Program, expertly guiding the participants through the program, and ensuring they were able to achieve their learning objectives. She furthered advised that after completing their work experience seven of the Project Wok graduates have accepted permanent jobs with Credit Corporation.
Project Wok Volunteer Facilitator, Dawn Robinson, said that the feedback from the Credit Corporation Project Wok Work Experience Program was extremely positive. And that in addition to the seven graduates who had been employed by Credit Corporation a further three graduates had secured jobs which demonstrates the quality of the Project Wok graduates.
